Ready for Back to School!

There always seems to be a lot to accomplish over the summer, but being at home with 3 kids doesn’t allow for a lot of time. Nevertheless, I have been a busy little bee!

Just as an update, I’m moving up to 4th grade this year! And with the move, I decided it was time to move on from owls and brights to something a little more grown up.

Target and Michaels teacher haul! Updating colors this year for older kiddos!

Looping Up!!!

Well the stars aligned and I am looping up from 2nd to 3rd grade this year! I am super excited to be in a new grade and have another year with my kiddos that i just don’t know what to do with myself!

First super awesome thing, I get to move back to my old room! (you remember the one with the metal doorframe….) I was so happy to be back in the old room that I had the kids move all my stuff on the last two days of school. I think they were just as excited as I was because my whole room was moved in about 2 hours. They kept coming back and asking to move more stuff and before I knew it, everything was gone.

Ahh. So happy. Old room. Big windows. Built in Innovation Station (That’s what our district calls the projector/ladybug/computer combo unit). Main hallway. Next to the playpad. So much wonderfulness.

The only sad part about moving is I made friends with my new neighbor down in the dungeon room. She’s a first year teacher and I feel like I’m abandoning her. I’ll have to visit often and do something nice for her to make up for it!

So with the new grade and all, I’m feeling swamped with all of the creating and re-creating of resources that I have made over the years for 2nd grade and now don’t “really” work for 3rd. First things first is to understand the TEKS for 3rd. I know that sounds totally nerdy but it really helps me grasp what the needs are for the grade level. I know my best teaching for 2nd came when I really started dissecting the TEKS and keeping those as the forefront of my teaching.

The bummer of it is, everyone else in the country seems to be doing Common Core, and there are all these cute things for Common Core or that are Common Core Aligned. Well here in Texas we don’t give a pahooey for Common Core so I’m working on making cute stuff for the TEKS.

First up, some ELAR TEKS “I can” posters. This isn’t something new for me. I’ve been making these and attaching them to my lesson plans for 2nd grade for years. But with looping to 3rd, I figured I would go ahead and make a formal cutesy set.

3rd Grade ELAR TEKSI started with the Reading strand and I’m already partway done with Writing. You can get it at my TPT store and download a preview file with the first TEKS.

I figure I’ll keep plugging away at these until I have the main subject areas covered. Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies. I usually color code my classroom so the colors will continue into the posters.

Well, back to work!
